I've been away for a week at Lakeside YMCA with the school. Brilliant week, ate lots but also did lots of activities.

It is time to post up my latest weight data. Here it is:

Starter for ten - what I'm doing and why

Getting a bit fitter I hope, losing some weight. Had the Summer holidays and decided I needed to get back in shape after drinking too much beer and eating too many cream cakes. So last week I started on my programme for getting back into shape. I will keep this log as a personal record of the highs and lows as I progress towards my goal of a BMI of around 23.5. I've created it mostly for myself as an ongoing record while I'm working towards my goal, but also for next year when I realise I've got to do it all again. Here are some of my goals: Run the Macclesfield Half Marathon on 26th September - I've got some serious training to do; Get to 23.5 BMI by losing 1kg per week - some time in mid-November I think. By the time next years Summer holiday comes along where me and Sharon are going away on our own to be able to go onto the beach and not be afraid to take off my top I've got some things I'm planning on achieving which I'll post about another ...

This weekends Fell race

This weekend I'll be running the hardest race I've ever done. I did it last year and got a time of 2:36:55 according to the official results http://www.goytvalleystriders.org.uk/fellraces/results/WindgatherResults2010.htm It is a 13.5 mile race with 2500ft of climb, which makes it much more challenging than a typical half marathon. Last year I developed a nasty blister by mile 8, due to getting soggy feet early on. I remember it was painful to run up Shining Tor on it. This year I intend to try to avoid that, hopefully my new shoes and socks will help me avoid blisters. I just need to make sure they a re well broken in by then. My target time is 2:30, which is pretty optimistic I know, but I'm hoping that I can do better this year by avoiding blisters. Dave and Matt got in at 2:15 and 2:19 last year. To do this I'll need to maintain an average pace of 11.11 minute miles.

Interesting behavioural insight - 82.9kg

I went into Manchester on Saturday night. Had a great time and was not tempted (by alcohol) once. It was noticed that even though I was not drinking beer, I was still knocking the drinks back, it was mostly either pints of tonic water or soda water. So this compulsion to drink quickly is possibly being driven by the desire for alcohol, but maybe more a habit formed with cold drinks in my hand regardless. I must see if there is any other evidence of this and what it could lead to. I am not too worried about it given that my choice of drink at the moment is tonic water which is not too laden with sugar, but it is interesting none-the-less. I plan to have two more meetings this week then take stock of where I am with that. I'm continuing to read the book and the stories in it, there is a pattern of messages in there which are helping.
